Background and Aim: Undoubtedly, illegal shootings are one of the most dangerous issues that endanger the objective and subjective security in a region and while causing disciplinary and security consequences, cause concern among the people and officials and reduce the sense of public security. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the police-security factors affecting illegal shootings at Ilam city.
Method: The current applied research follows a descriptive-correlational method in terms of data collection. The statistical population of this study was 90 law enforcement, security and social experts working at Ilam province jurisdiction who sampled through total population sampling. Data was gathered through a research-made questionnaire; its face and content validity was confirmed by the supervisor, advisor, and relevant experts. The reliability also was confirmed through Cronbach's alpha (0.786).
Results: The results of the correlation test showed a significant and positive relationship between security factors and the occurrence of illegal shootings in Ilam. Regression analysis showed that the presence of thugs (level of 1%), the weakness of the police intelligence governance (level of 1%), arms smuggling (level of 1%), and access to weapons and ammunition (level of 5%) had a positive and significant effect on illegal shootings in Ilam. These variables have been able to explain 65.3% of the occurrence of illegal shootings in the city, which is a significant percentage.
